The Moscow Museum of Modern Art proudly presents an exhibition project CO:CREATION, produced by Olga Mikhalchuk, Nina Lavrischeva and Asya Yudaeva, and dedicated to several generations of Russian video art and media art.
The pioneers of Russian media art in the 1980s, those who shot in the 90s and 2000s, anticipated the development of internet blogging, the emergence of video hosting, the clip mentality, and in many ways predicted homo screen.
Today young artists choose the most powerful methods to quickly capture current trends: working with digital images and big data, sound recording, video art and its derivatives, co-operation with artificial intelligence. The authors react to any changes with lightning speed. The continuity, the connection with the Soviet art of the Perestroika period and the national context can be seen in the apparent simplicity and ease of conceptual entry into the field of visionary art. For an active dialogue with both the past art generation and the current viewer, contemporary artists are as if inventing a time machine.
The project is consistent with the MMOMA’s large-scale study of current media. From 2007 to 2011, MMOMA presented a series of three exhibitions Russian Video Art Histories, designed to tell the public about its significance in contemporary culture, its step-by-step historical development and its influence on artistic discourse.
The exhibition assembled at the MMOMA Educational Centre features the latest video pieces and objects (including an interactive installation and previously unexhibited works) created by Roman Mokrov (lecturer at the Free Workshops School of Contemporary Art), Daria Antsiferova, Katya Sadovnikova, Yulia Pastukhova (graduates of the Free Workshops School of Contemporary Art), as well as Maria Arendt, Alexandra Mitlyanskaya, Kristina Bashkova, Anastasia Krokhaleva, Pavel Chekulaev, Maria Arkhipova, Margarita Zhuravleva, Ksenia Frolova, Petrova Vera, Prutskova Aksana, Shayena.
