The image of a human, his involvement in the world around him from the side of an observer, a creator of culture and the gaze looking at us from the incomprehensible world of another continent is the main research theme of the exhibition called “Travel diary. Africa”. By laying out a conventional travel route, we raise various layers of meanings that encompass the history, mythology and cults of African countries. The exposition offers the visitor to make a journey to the sunniest continent on the planet in the footsteps of the great artist of the XX century — Alexander Yakovlev.
The project reveals the multifaceted culture of Africa, paying special attention to the issues of interethnic, religious, aesthetic and humanistic discourse. Having established a route from Algeria to Madagascar, we outlined clear territorial boundaries of the research, as well as highlighted the time period from the beginning of the 20th century, when Africa attracted the attention and interest of Russian people, to the present day. The established research laboratory allowed the artists to create works that uniquely represent the topic, touching on issues of both personal experience and global character.
Olga Mikhalchuk has presented her fresh piece of work about daydreaming and reality in memories. She research how we percept the truth or imaginary with photography.
